Man stabbed to death in Male, three suspects arrested

A 19-year-old man was stabbed to death in a fatal incident that occurred in capital Male late on Saturday night.

A 24-year-old man, who was at the scene, was also stabbed during the attack, which took place in Maafannu ward of the capital.

According to the police, the 19-year-old, who passed away whilst being treated at the state-run Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH), was Moosa Ahmed from Keyodhoo island in Vaavu atoll. The other man who was attacked is still being treated for the injuries he sustained.

The two men were attacked with a knife, which was left at the scene of the crime, the police revealed.

Two motorbikes that the culprits used during the attack were also found a few meters away from where the incident occurred.

The police on Sunday morning confirmed that they have three individuals in custody in relation to the stabbing; however, no further details were disclosed.

The capital Male saw an escalation of violent crimes last July when two young men were killed in knife attacks on separate incidences. On July 27, 24-year-old Nadeem Abdul Raheem from Thakandhoo in northern Haa Alif atoll was stabbed in the head and killed whilst he was at a local café. Less than a week later, 25-year-old Mohamed Anas from Meedhoo in Raa atoll was stabbed 37 times inside Litus Service Centre.

The police confirmed that they arrested one suspect in relation to Nadeem’s murder, whilst cases of four individuals who are believed to have taken part in the murder have been submitted to the Prosecutor General’s Office.

Meanwhile, police have announced manhunts for two individuals who they believe are connected to Anas’ murder. The police informed that they already have four individuals, including the prime suspect of the murder, in custody.
